Course Description

While a will is an essential tool, it represents only one piece of a complete estate plan. A well-rounded plan should protect your family, your assets and your intentions — both during your lifetime and after. This course provides an overview of the primary elements of estate planning using practical examples. Topics include wills, health care and financial powers of attorney, guardianship, revocable and irrevocable trusts, HIPAA authorizations, living wills, and the role of an executor and trustee. The course explains the function of each estate planning document and how they work together. It also introduces general considerations related to probate and asset distribution, including how certain planning tools may be used to manage the transfer of assets and administrative responsibilities.
