Course Description

The Live Broadcast Truck Intensive Training will give students entry-level knowledge and hands-on technical training in the broadcast production agency. Industry professionals using industry-standard equipment and techniques will instruct students. Students will have the opportunity to network with professionals who regularly staff freelance positions in the broadcast industry. Students will have two classes of instruction, two days of practice filming and two days of shadowing at a live event. If the student is recommended for work, the student has the opportunity to work a limited number of Tri-C events for pay. $100 scholarships available! Course Outline

DAY ONE:

Training 1 – 8 p.m.

  1. Introduction to live events

  2. Overview of job market in Northeast Ohio

  3. Where jobs are and how to get them

  4. Macro overview of positions

LUNCH BREAK 4 – 5 p.m. (PLEASE BRING YOUR LUNCH)

Training 5 – 8 p.m.

  1. Overview of positions

  2. Cable wrangling

  3. Headset etiquette        

  4. Professional etiquette

Learner Outcomes

Upon satisfactory completion of this course, the student should be able to perform the following tasks and supporting objectives:

  1. Discuss the pre-production process for recording a live event

  2. Understand the different positions in live broadcast and their duties

  3. Understand industry etiquette and safety procedures

  4. Understand the roles and skills that need to be developed in order to advance a live broadcasting career

  5. Network with industry professionals

  6. Understand and perform the duties of a camera operator

$100 scholarships are available. Please contact Jessica Noeth at jessica.noeth@tri-c.edu | 216.987.3137 to receive the scholarship. Games will be announced in August for students to select a shadow or mentor opportunity per the Athletic Department's schedule. Games will be first-come, first-served for sign up.

Camera positions will be available for all games. Production truck shadowing is available for volleyball (Eastern Campus), women's basketball (Eastern Campus) and men's basketball (Metro Campus).

Section Notes

Students will be scheduled to work two games (dates and times tbd) before the end of 2026.

If students pass, they will have the opportunity to work Tri-C athletic events in the late fall until spring of 2027.
