Course Description

"Budokai" (武道会) is a Japanese word derived from kanji, meaning a "Martial Arts Gathering" or "Martial Arts Tournament." It is composed of three characters: Bu (武), meaning martial; Do (道), meaning a way or path, especially a spiritual one; and Kai (会), meaning a gathering, meeting or association. Therefore, Budokai literally translates to an "association of those who walk the martial path" or a "gathering for those on the martial path."

Structure

Each session will focus on:

  1. A combination of bodyweight mobility/agility exercises
  2. Strength and coordination development through the use of large dowel rods and short bamboo sticks
  3. Self-defense solo drill combinations

This is a non-contact class, so there will be no "sparring" or uncontrolled movement.

Goal

As students continue to participate, they will build muscle, increase range of motion and learn some basic self-defense techniques.
