You will learn how to correct, change and improve the color of an image, get rid of stains and scratches on scanned images, combine images, add special effects and filters to images and to create images using Photoshop artistic tools. It is recommended that you take the Photoshop Introduction course or have prior experience with Photoshop before taking this class.

Students will need a copy of Photoshop. A 30-day trial version is available.

Course Outline

Lesson 1: Getting Started

In this lesson we will discuss ways to organize and archive files. We will look at using Mini Bridge to locate and review images. We will also look at the basic workflow used when editing an image.

Lesson 2: Camera Raw

In this lesson we will look at many of the tools available in Camera Raw for adjusting images. We will look not only at correcting image problems, but also how to add some special effects.

Lesson 3: Cropping

In this lesson we will look at cropping and resizing our images. We will explore the crop tool and look at ways to approach resizing our images, depending on the ultimate use for the image.

Lesson 4: Black and White

It's funny to me that although photography has progressed to capture all kinds of color, we still love the look of black and white images. In this lesson we will learn how to turn our color images into black and white. The book does not go into much detail on how all the features work, so spend some time looking at the online content and playing on your own.

Lesson 5: HDR Images

In this lesson we will look at how to create High Dynamic Range (HDR) images. Although we simulate this with a single image and using the Camera Raw filter, we will have better luck setting up our camera to take multiple images at different exposures. We'll also look at how to fix the little problems we may encounter when combining images this way.

Lesson 6: Fixing Little Problems

In this lesson we will look at fixing some common image problems. If you took the Photoshop Introduction course, you've seen all the tools covered in this lesson before. This time you will see them used a bit differently and see more details about using them.

Lesson 7: Special Effects and Sharpening

In this lesson we are going to take a look at some of the filters and the special effects we can add to our images. We will also explore the Unsharp Mask tool for sharpening the image and adding special effects.

Lesson 8: Printing and Color Management

In this lesson we will learn how to make sure the print of our image looks as good as it does on the screen. This includes making sure the camera colorspace, options in Photoshop and printing options are set correctly.

Lesson 9: Video Editing and More

In this lesson we are going to look at working with video in Photoshop. We are also going to explore features of Photoshop specific to Creative Cloud.

Lesson 10: Putting It All Together

We have learned many techniques for retouching images in Photoshop. Now it will be up to you to practice what you have learned and apply it to the work you plan to do with Photoshop, whether it is photo retouching or creating original works of art.
