Student Leadership Certificate Program (SLCP): Build your skills. Find your voice. Lead your community.

The SLCP is a noncredit certificate program offered through Student Life. This is your opportunity to grow as a leader, explore your strengths, and gain experience that makes your resume—and you—stand out.

Complete 7 meaningful activities to earn your Student Leadership Certificate:

  1. Completion Plan + Mentorship Meeting: Meet with a Student Life Advisor (SLA) to set goals, build a timeline, and launch your SLCP journey.
  2. Knowing Self and Others: Explore identity, communication, and collaboration—tools to better lead and connect with others.
  3. Values + Representation: Learn how your personal values connect to civic systems at the local, state, and federal levels.
  4. Student Leadership Retreat OR 5 Personal Development Events: Attend our in-person retreat or choose from virtual and on-campus events that match your interests and schedule.
  5. 25 Hours of Community Service: Serve your community while building leadership, teamwork, and purpose.
  6. Resume Update with Career Services: Work one-on-one with Career Services to highlight your SLCP experience and leadership skills.
  7. Capstone Presentation: My SLCP Story: Reflect on your journey and present how you've grown as a leader.

Learner Outcomes

Completion Plan + Mentorship Meeting   

  1. Develop a personal timeline and action plan for SLCP progress.
  2. Articulate motivation and goals for participating in SLCP.
  3. Establish realistic time management strategies and identify barriers.

  1. Identify and reflect on social identities influencing experiences and leadership.

25 Hours of Community Service

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of their role and responsibilities within the community service activity.
  2. Connect their community service experience to leadership skills or qualities.
  3. Analyze how their community service experience influenced their personal growth, values, or understanding of leadership.

Resume Update with Career Services

  1. Reflect on communicating leadership experiences professionally.
  2. Demonstrate insight by linking resume feedback to leadership development.
  3. Articulate plans to apply learning to future opportunities.

Capstone Presentation: My SLCP Story

  1. Reflect critically on leadership development and articulate key takeaways.
  2. Synthesize learning across SLCP components into a cohesive narrative.
  3. Communicate leadership philosophy and future application effectively.
  4. Engage the audience confidently with clarity during Q&A.
