Course Description

In our highly diverse classrooms, faculty, administrative staff and student participants are increasingly encountering situations in which words and behaviors may inadvertently insult or invalidate others’ lived experience. This session will be an interactive using video and group discussion to address effective ways to address micro-aggressions and promote and inclusive environment. The participants will learn about three types of micro-aggressions, what to do if you commit a micro-aggression and how to promote a culturally competent environment.

 

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define culture and diversity

  • Increase self-awareness about privilege

  • Increase self-awareness in unconscious bias

  • Define three types of micro-aggressions

  • Improve communication and teamwork

  • Develop cultural competence to help participants reduce the use of micro-aggressions
