Course Description

The Enlightenment of the 17th and 18th centuries proved that ideas can change the world. No area of human knowledge has escaped its influence. Philosophy, the arts, religion, economics, psychology — and, most profoundly, politics, morality and science — have all been formed according to the ideals of freedom and progress. But because change happens faster than humans can adapt to it, we find ourselves living in a world that we don’t fully understand. Explore how the blind embrace of Enlightenment ideals has contributed to increased violence, hatred and immorality across the globe.
