Course Description

This extensive hands-on course provides the in-depth knowledge and skills necessary to thoroughly investigate fires from fire scenes to the courtroom, as outlined in NFPA 921. Includes fire dynamics, motives, fire scene fatalities, scene documentation, evidence, case preparation and testimony. Students engage in a hands-on investigation that includes investigating, documenting and collecting evidence from a fire scene, case preparation.

Required Textbooks:

“Fire Investigator” Principles and Practice to NFPA 921 & 1033

“NFPA 921 Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations”

“NFPA 1033 Standard for Professional qualifications for Fire Investigator”

Prerequisites:

Minimum three years of experience in the preceding 5 years as a firefighter and/or police officer. Minimum one year as an Origin and Cause, Basic Level Investigator. These individuals must submit documentation to this effect on department letterhead, signed by your Chief.
