Course Description

At the end of this course the student will know the hazards of moving water and be able to perform operation-level swiftwater rescues.

Course Outline

1. Students will identify the SANE approach according to the class materials. 2. Students will identify the seven reasons why rescues fail according to the class materials. 3. Students will list signs and symptoms of hypothermia. 4. Students will identify the field treatment for hypothermia and cold water near-drowning according to the class materials.

Notes

ALL ATTENDEES MUST BRING TO TRAINING THE FOLLOWING: Swimwear for swim test at the pool. Any departmental Personal Protection Equipment that they wish to use for the training for inspection and approval.

Needed PPE equipment for the class:

  • PFD
  • Helmet
  • Swiftwater rescue dry suit
  • Water rescue gloves
  • Footwear for the water
  • Knife for PFD and whistle
