Course Description

Wrap yourself in the history of the Civil War era as seen through the eyes of a quilter. In addition to diaries, women of this era expressed themselves through quilt-making. Quilts symbolized political views and even functioned as signals for the Underground Railroad. Since women were often left out of written history, a quilt became a tangible legacy of their lives that would remain for generations. The quilts were their books, and the needles their pens.
