Course Description

Explore the many facets of Microsoft Excel 2019, learning basic functions like creating a spreadsheet, working with formulas, using templates, and creating and sorting tables, as well as more advanced features like pivot tables and user interfaces. Microsoft Office 365 required to complete coursework.

Course Outline

Lesson 1: Creating a Worksheet

Open an Excel spreadsheet and learn how to navigate it, entering text, formatting cells and saving a project.

Lesson 2: Working with Formulas and Large Worksheets

Learn how to enter and verify formulas, use the IF function to perform a logical test, and freeze and unfreeze rows and columns.

Lesson 3: Financial Functions and Working in Multiple Spreadsheets

Explore the financial functions of Microsoft Excel (e.g., amortization schedules, mortgage payment calculator), create a consolidated worksheet and learn to work across several spreadsheets.

Lesson 4: Creating Tables and Templates

Learn how to create, format and sort tables; import data; and work with templates and SmartArt.

Lesson 5: Using PivotTables and Complex Problem-Solving

Explore more advanced features like PivotTables and other Excel charts. Learn how to perform complex problem-solving and customize Excel add-ins.

Lesson 6: Data Analysis and User Interfaces

Explore macros and other ways to analyze data, as well as how to collaborate and create custom themes in Excel.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Format text entered into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
  • Apply formulas to cells in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. 
  • Create tables and charts in Microsoft Excel.
  • Use financial functions in Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in multiple workbooks.
  • Create a Microsoft Excel template.
  • Create PivotTable and PivotChart reports.
  • Perform complex problem-solving and validation in Microsoft Excel.
  • Use macros to perform operations in Microsoft Excel.
  • Collaborate using Microsoft Excel.

Notes

Students must have a copy of Microsoft Office 365 in order to complete coursework.

Students have 12 months to complete this self-paced online course.

Certification(s):

  • This course prepares a student to take the Microsoft Excel 2019 national certification exam.
