Philosophers, theologians and physicists have grappled with the idea of free will. Some conclude we have it but don’t use it very well; others deny its existence. Everyone from Aristotle and Augustine to Thomas Aquinas, Baruch Spinoza, Immanuel Kant and Derk Pereboom have weighed in, and Stephen Hawking sought an answer through science. Let’s explore and discuss their conclusions.
