Course Description

The experience of British children during WWII is a largely untold story. From 1939 to 1945, their lives were turned upside down by evacuation; air raids; deaths of family members, playmates and neighbors; destruction of homes and familiar landscapes; disruption to schooling; fear of gas attacks; shortages; fathers away fighting and mothers working; homelessness and emergency accommodation and more. This is their story – a story of freedom, excitement and new experiences framed by fear and bewilderment.
