Course Description

St. George, established in 1911, gathered Arabs from numerous countries in Western Asia and Northern Africa in the late 19th century.  Although Arab (Muslim) most of these early immigrants were Christian. Learn about the fire that destroyed the building and how the church members raised more than $40,000 to rebuild the Byzantine style church with cupolas on the steeple, and an ornate altar screen hand-crafted by Damascus.  The onion-shaped finials at the top of the bell tower, are indicative of the congregations’ unique cultural and religious heritage.
