This course will give you a basic understanding of how to operate a DSLR and/or mirrorless camera, lenses and other photographic equipment. You will gain an understanding of the camera functions and how to set them for whatever your photography interests are, whether it’s sports, landscapes or portraits Focusing on the relationship between shutter speed, aperture and ISO, you will no longer need to set your camera to auto to create beautiful images. This class is for the true beginner and those needing a refresher on the basic operation of your camera. Be sure to bring your camera along with the manual, a memory card, lenses and your love for photography.
Camera Recommendations:
The instructor recommends using either a DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) camera or a mirrorless camera for this course. Reputable brands such as Nikon, Canon, Sony, Fujifilm, Panasonic, and Olympus all offer excellent options. While both types of cameras are suitable, DSLRs are generally more budget-friendly for beginners.
Registration Information:
To register for class, you must have an active Tri-C student number.
- If you are new to Tri-C, or if you haven’t taken a class in the past year, you’ll need to complete the online application at: www.tri-c.edu/ncregistration. Student numbers become inactive after one year of no enrollment. Completing the online application will either issue you a new student number (if you are new) or reactivate your existing number (if you are returning).
- Applications can take up to 10 business days to process. Once complete, your student number will be emailed to you, and you’ll be able to register and pay for class.

You will receive a student welcome email up to three business days before the course start date. This email will include important course details such as the location, time, address logistics, and any additional information the instructor may wish to share.
