Course Description
This dynamic six-week course is designed for aspiring filmmakers eager to produce impactful stories with the resources at their disposal, with an emphasis on short film production.
Participants will learn to identify and leverage available actors, locations, and equipment to bring their ideas to life. We'll cover essential strategies for story structure and practical production decisions that maximize available resources for production. Additionally, this course will focus on budgeting, scheduling, casting, finding crew, post-production, and next steps after the project is completed (festivals, distribution).
By the end of this course, you will know how to transform your ideas into a tangible project and strategically leverage that work to advance your career as an independent filmmaker.

Learner Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify and strategically utilize "at-hand" assets—including specific locations, available actors, and existing equipment—to shape a script that is both high-impact and feasible to produce.
- Apply foundational screenwriting principles to develop compelling narratives for short films, ensuring the story is optimized for production and post-production efficiency.
- Perform professional script breakdowns and develop a budget and production schedule tailored to the unique constraints of independent short filmmaking.
- Implement effective strategies for casting talent and recruiting crew members
- Understand professional post-production workflow in the context of low-budget production.
- Develop a game plan for their finished film.
